Head of EQA Services

I have been the Head of EQA Services since March 2020 and the Scheme Co‑ordinator for the Food and Environmental Proficiency Testing Unit (FEPTU) since 2012. In this role, I am responsible for leading the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of our External Quality Assessment (EQA) services, ensuring they remain robust, relevant, and of the highest standard.

I joined the organisation in 1988, when it was known as PHLS, working initially within diagnostic testing. I have remained within the same organisation throughout its transitions to HPA, PHE, and now UKHSA. I have over 30 years of experience across the full breadth of EQA operations, including promoting and marketing our services, developing strong professional networks, engaging with customers, and supporting laboratory quality systems. This extensive experience has given me a broad and practical understanding of quality assurance across clinical, food, and environmental microbiology.

I firmly remain committed to supporting laboratories, enhancing service quality, and contributing to the continued improvement of EQA provision across the sector.
